PBL: A Day of Images

Pictures from IMSA’s 2 week Coaching Institute where we are learning how to coach groups of middle and high school aged students towards their own solution to a PBL problem. Today’s session focused primarily on the context and content of the problem that will be presented to these students in next weeks “Summer Sleuths” program.

Comic Life is a much loved piece of software for the MAC that is currently in beta for the PC. Hopefully, its full version will be released soon. As you can see, it has a lot potential for student created graphic novels as well as alternative ways to present information.}

Great post. Thanks for sharing the software tip. I too see lots of potential.

I love the Comic Life software. I can’t wait to use it in my classroom!

I like the pictures but like the Comic Life software even more. Is it freeware?

It is not freeware. But the current MAC version is very inexpensive. The cost for one copy is about $20. I spoke to someone at NECC in June who stated they got an entire DISTRICT license for around $500. The guys who created Comic Life don’t seem to want to get rich with the money they charge here. They only want to be able to continue to support the software. Which is good news for PC users, since as I stated, it IS going to be available very soon for the PC. I have the beta PC version and the full MAC version, and they seem the same; I can’t imagine the cost for the PC will be any higher. I can’t wait. I think our Language Arts teachers alone will be able to make good use of the software. I’ve also spoken to Social Studies teachers and Science teachers and they are just as excited.
