How To Find & Listen to Podcasts

Some of you may be at the point where you want to start podcasting. Others out there may not even be sure what a podcast is. If you fall into the second category, the easiest way to understand what podcasting is, is to start listening to them yourself.

Podcast IconThe name podcast or podcasting came out of the popularity of the iPod. However, you don’t have to own an iPod or any MP3 player to participate. A podcast is essentially like a radio broadcast on demand. However, these days, there are also video podcasts (some refer to them as vodcasts or vidcasts). You can find podcasts in any subject area under the sun - education, hobbies, entertainment, news, you name it.

When someone publishes their podcast files to the Internet, they allow users to subscribe to a feed and receive their podcasts automatically at no cost. You need a free piece of software like iTunes or Juice to subscribe to a podcast. However, you don’t even need that if all you want to do is go out and listen to one. Like the podcasts offered on this blog, most sites have the podcasts available so that you can listen to them directly from the web without ever downloading them onto your computer or MP3 player.

Sound too complicated? Its not. But lets just go through one scenario of how to find, subscribe to, and listen to a podcast. I’ll explain the easiest way using the free piece of software called iTunes. Remember, this isn’t the only way to find and listen to podcasts…its just the easiest.
