How Do I Activate the "New" Votes?

If you received your ACTIVvotes after October 24, 2007, you probably received the new 2.4 Ghz votes. You can tell the difference between these and the "old" votes in that the 2.4 Ghz votes requires the use of a hub that is attached to a USB port on your computer.

Activating the new 2.4 Ghz votes is different from the older ones.

Instructions for doing so can be found here...

Quick Start Guide - Activote 2.4 Ghz, downloaded from Promethean World's support page.

What do I do if I have lost my pen?

Your school will need to replace any lost or stolen pens. Each pen costs approximately $23.

How do I get replacement nibs for my pen?

Promethean has 2 types of pen nibs. One type is approx 65mm long, and the other approx 30mm long. Please check which type you need and contact Promethean technical support requesting these nibs (simply request long or short nibs). Activpen nib replacements are free of charge and a pack of nibs will be sent to you.

What do I do if my ACTIVpen is broken?

Call Promethean support at 1-888-65-ACTIV (1-888-652-2848), or email Promethean technical support. You'll need your board number and serial number.

How do I clean my ACTIVboard?

Do not use abrasive powders, soap, detergents or petroleum based cleaners or solvents on the Activboard surface. We recommend a proprietary brand of dry-wipe marker board cleaner. Water based cleaners containing ammonia, vinegar or citrus (e.g., glass and counter cleaners) that leave no residual film are acceptable as a second choice. Please check the contents on the container label prior to use or clean and test a small area before cleaning the entire surface.

Stubborn stains or accumulations from other contaminants such as fingerprint oil, dirt, dust or use of grease, pencil or permanent markers may require use of a detergent cleaner and a soft bristle brush. After such a cleaning it will be necessary to clean the surface two or more times with the approved whiteboard cleaner or denatured alcohol.

Scratches cannot be repaired or removed and will make ink and stain removal to that area difficult. Do not use metal brushes, scrapers or cleaning cloths whose prior use is questionable.

A polish with standard household spray polish will restore the smooth writing surface after cleaning.

The surface of the Activboard is made to very high standards of durability. In normal use you can expect satisfactory results every time with proper maintenance.

Where do I go to download flipcharts to use in my classroom?

There are two places you can go to download ready-to-use flipcharts for your classroom. The first is Promethean Planet's flipchart resources. You must be a registered user of Promethean Planet in order to download these resources; but registration is free and recommended by the district.

The second place is the site you are looking at, the SBISD Flipchart Repository. The flipcharts on this site are created by SBISD teachers and for use only by SBISD teachers. If you are an ACTIVclassroom teacher and would like to be able to browse and download these flipcharts, please email Angela McNeil at angela.mcneil@springbranchisd.com and ask to become a registered user of the SBISD FlipChart Repository.

Training
I can not see any ACTIVclassroom training sessions in PDLC? Where are they?!

ACTIVclassroom teachers need to change their profile in PDLC in order to see training. Please visit this page and follow the instructions for changing your profile.

I am a new ACTIVclassroom teacher. How do I get trained?

All ACTIVclassroom teachers are asked to complete a minimum of 12 hours of training within one year of receiving their board. The first six hours of training must be completed before the teacher can begin to use their board. This training is called ACTIVclassroom - Introductory Training and is offered throughout the year, several times per month.

It is important that a teacher not take the training before they are notified that their board will be installed. We have found that teachers who have taken the intro training without a board quickly forget much of what was taught because they don't have a board on which to practice their new skills.

Please follow this link to view a list of introductory classes offered for the Spring 2008 semester. If you are a new ACTIVclassroom teacher or a teacher who is about to get a board, please register on PDLC for an introductory class. The list shows both introductory and advanced classes. Please make certain you register for an introductory class before taking one of the supplemental classes.

How do I receive additional support after my introductory training?

There are several ways you can obtain additional support after your introductory and/or advanced trainings.

  1. You can view the online tutorials for both ACTIVprimary and ACTIVstudio offered by Atomic Learning. Atomic Learning is free for all SBISD employees but you must know your username and password to login. There are also tutorials available on the site for MAC versions.
  2. You may view the FREE tutorials offered through http://prometheanlearning.com/us/. If you have already completed your 6 hours of introductory training, you don't need to complete all of these tutorials. Just veiw the ones you need additional help with. You must register first to view these tutorials, but registration is free.
  3. Subscribe and listen to Promethean Planet's Podcasts called ACTIVtips.
  4. Contact Angela McNeil at angela.mcneil@springbranchisd.com in the SBISD Educational Technology Department to schedule a Users Group at your school during the day or after school.
  5. Contact Karen Adams, the Texas Teaching and Learning Consultant (TLC) at Promethean Planet. Help is just a few clicks away.
