Working with Percents for 7th graders

Designed to accompany Holt Course 2, Chapter 6, Sections 3, 4, 5, & 6, for 7th graders.

Addresses TEKS 7.3A.

This flipchart places a heavy emphasis on conceptual understanding through Singapore Math-style model drawing and proportions with scale factors. Problem difficulty ranges from very basic to quite challenging. Topics discussed include: finding the percent of a number, finding the percent one number is of another, finding a number when the percent is known, percent of increase or decrease, and percent applications such as discount, tax, and tip.

It is assumed that you have already taught the meaning of percent and fraction/decimal/percent conversions.

Equivalency Sort

Students are asked to sort decimal, percent, picture, and verbal equivalents of common fraction benchmarks. This flipchart can be used as a station or small group activity for two to five students. Addresses TEKS 6.1A&B, 6.3B, and 7.1A&B. The first page contains decimal and percent equivalents for one-third and two-thirds and is only appropriate for 7th or 8th grade and 6th grade pre-AP. The second page is identical, except that it does not have those repeating decimal values and can be used for 6th grade academic students. Created by Michelle Fontenot
