Speed and Velocity

This is an 8th grade flipchart that covers Speed and Velocity.  Students will calculate for speed, distance, time, and average speed.  General rules of graphing speed are also covered.  Students will have opportunities for assesment by solving problems, and by using the Activotes.

This flipchart is part of the 8th grade Physics unit.

Speed, Velocity and Acceleration

Physics 1 Academic: Grades 11 and 12

  • Students analyze examples of linear motion and accelerated motion.
  • Students calculate speed, velocity, acceleration of moving objects and investigate how forces affect motion in different frames of reference.

Momentum and Impulse

Physics Academic 1: Grades 11 and 12

  • Students examine how momentum and impulse are determined by an object's mass, velocity, force and time of motion.
  • Students calculate momentum and impulse.
  • Students examine the Law of Conservation of Momentum to discover possible outside forces that might affect the equality of the formula.
  • Students use real life examples including cars and athletes in their calculations.

Free Fall, Gravity, Aristotle and Galileo

Physics 1 Academic: Grades 11 and 12

  • Students analyze the effects of the force of gravity on the motion of an object in free-fall.
  • Students interpret graphs of accelerated motion.
  • Students calculate the final velocity and distance that an object falls for a defined time under the influence only of gravity.
  • Students apply the concept of air resistance (friction) to understand terminal velocity and apply it to the motion of an object.
